Looking at the world of fiction and popular culture… and the Evil Overlord List.

“When I have completely conquered and subjugated the entire world, I will not immediately branch out into other worlds/dimensions. I’ll wait a few generations so that my subjects will only know life under my benevolent reign, thus providing little help to any renegades from the new worlds.”
The “If I Were The Evil Overload” list is an attempt to poke fun at film, television and literary tropes and make a list that the super-villain should follow but don’t leading to their eventual downfall. This blog is designed to have the same sort of fun at that lists expense…
- I, personally, can’t wait a few generations. This may be great for immortal super villains, but not so good for mortals.
- No matter how benevolent a reign there’s always those who will continue to hate you and try to overthrow you, either out of revenge for how you got power, or because they’re greedy and want to take what you’ve rightfully stolen.
- Why wait to wait? I mean, sure, branching out onto other worlds is a big step, but when you’ve taken over a country taking over the world is a big step. Why not wait a few generations at the time you took over the world? Why not wait before you take over a country and use a campaign of angry facebook comments instead? If you’re going to take over the whole of existence, just do it, don’t be a coward about it.
- My reign won’t be benevolent.
